Club closed due to Alert Level 2
To all our Bridge Club Members
You will all be aware of the latest outbreak of community transmitted Covid-19 in Auckland, and as a consequence, the Bay of Plenty (and the rest of NZ, apart from Auckland) will be moving to level 2 at midday today (12th August) until 12.59 Friday night (14th August). Depending on what happens in the next 3 days, this could well be extended.
The committee met this morning under urgency to discuss the best outcomes for our members. Level 2 requires social distancing, preferably of 2 meters, and restricts gatherings of more than 100.

New Handicap System
At our last Committee meeting we agreed to change to a new handicap system, based on the EBU (English Bridge Union) calculations. For the majority of our members there will be little difference to the overall results and for a small few there maybe a slight re-rank. The big difference is that the handicaps are no longer static. Each week your handicap may change, as this is a dynamic system. It is based on lots of boards (up to 2000) and each week your latest results are added to the calculation. Not only that, your results are based on the strength of your opponents.
