Appeals

APPEALS PROTOCOL
To be used when a pair believes a Director has wrongly applied the laws or its penalties.
Players must display courtesy when a Director is ruling at the table
Directors must read from the rule book when ruling on difficult cases.
When a ruling is given, it must be accepted so that play can continue

Procedure:
Pairs may ask the Director for a review of the decision at any time up until 30 minutes after play finishes. The Director will keep the relevant bidding slip.
The Director will then ask two members of the Appeals Panel (see below) to give a ruling.
An appeal should be heard on the same day or as soon as possible afterwards.
If an appeal cannot be heard on the same day, all details should be recorded.
on an appeals form with the relevant bidding slip attached.
The appellants and the respondents are not to be present at the hearing. The
Director in charge (or his/her nominee) whose ruling is being reviewed, will
bring the relevant appeals form and or bidding slip and remain to participate in
the discussion to clarify any matters about which the appeals panel may ask.
He/she may also direct the panel on points of law or procedure but may not
vote.
When a decision has been made, the Director will advise the appellants and
the respondents of the outcome and notify the scorer of any adjustments to be
made.
