Update from Diane, President, 16th September

By Julie S - Posted on 16 September 2020

Hello to all our bridge club members

Firstly a big thank you to those of you who attended our general special meeting and thank you to those who sent in their apologies. We had 83 present and 17 apologies. It was great to see members fielding some very important questions. For those who could not be there the vote in principal to merge with the surf club was unanimous except for two. Now the hard work begins.

At the general meeting, it was agreed we needed to form a sub committee to work with the surf club to oversee the beginning of this proposal, including plans, lease etc. We had some volunteers come forward who offered their expertise in this field. Therefore, the sub committee is formed of Warren Coventry, Bruce Inglis, Julie Sheridan and Grant Aislabie (our lawyer from CG Law). These four will liaise with the surf club, Julie will report back to our committee monthly (or more frequently if necessary) and feedback will be sent out to our members. Hopefully there will be plans for our members to peruse prior to Christmas. I would like to thank Julie, Warren and Bruce very much, and it goes without saying, our lawyer who has volunteered his services. CG Law already sponsor our singles on a Wednesday night.

COVID 19

We have been told it is highly likely we will be moving down to level 1 on Monday 21st September, if this happens, we will be open for business on Wednesday 23rd. Please check your book and contact your partners. Directors and scorers please let me know if you are unavailable. Julie and her team of dealers will be busy dealing the cards ready for re-opening on 23rd. How exciting is this, let's hope it is permanent. Please remember there is still a worldwide pandemic out there, so we need to be cautious. We have a QR code on our door, please use it. There will be the usual hand sanitiser available, and please remember to hand wash, stay home if unwell, South only to touch the bridge mates and avoid touching your face. The pens on lanyards will be available on Wednesday, they are $5 each, Dianne Gibson is the person to contact if you want one out of bridge times. Otherwise they will be at the club OR bring your own pen. The Health and Safety of our members is our priority.

Please can we have all trophies returned ASAP once the club is open. The prize giving and Christmas party is on 22nd November, and any changes to your details in the programme book please let Robyn Knight or a committee member know.

Please give some thought into joining our dynamic and motivated committee for next year. We have had an indication a couple would like to “retire” at the end of the year, so there is an opportunity for new blood. Please let me know if you are interested.

That’s it for now, looking forward to seeing you all once the club opens, take care, stay well,

Diane

President
