Thank you to Nan Ward for Jan's eulogy
Jan KirkJan Kirk
I didn’t know Jan before she and her husband, Graham retired here but believe that she worked extremely hard in business and was a keen singer and performed in musical productions. We met through family connections and quickly became friends. As you know Jan was a very friendly person. She was a hard worker and enthusiastic about
anything she took on. In those early days she was instrumental in forming a new chapter of the Probus club and maintained an interest in it. When she joined the bridge club she soon became a member of the committee and always a keen helper. I remember Jan and Daphne Ansell in the kitchen on Tournament Days slaving away. She became President after me. You could always rely on Jan to do the right thing. She was very proud of the fact that she, Daphne, Toni Cramer and Blair Dickey took off to Rotorua to the BOP interclub teams and came home with the trophy, the Junior section. After Graham died she decided to sell their home and go to a retirement village, Pacific Coast. She was among the first residents and soon became very involved there and especially enjoyed the singing in the choir there. After a while she resigned from the bridge club as it clashed with village activities. She was plagued by ill health in latter years but always rose above it until this last one which was bigger than even Jan. She was a very caring person as was borne out by the very large number who turned out for her service at the Tauranga Yacht Club last week. She will leave happy memories to many people. A fitting farewell to a very special lady.
